The return of the Caspian tiger: how a species feared extinct has come back to Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan has become the first country to restore a tiger population after extinction, releasing a wild-caught female named Umit ('hope') into a reserve on Lake Balkhash — the last reliable sighting there was more than 70 years ago — with plans for a self-sustaining population of about 50.
