Ukrainian drone attack on Russia kills at least six, says Moscow

Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks of the war, setting a Wildberries distribution warehouse south of Moscow ablaze and killing at least six people, according to Russian authorities. The Guardian reports that Moscow claimed to have shot down 1,478 Ukrainian drones in 24 hours — the highest total it has ever announced — while Russian strikes killed seven people across 13 locations in Ukraine.

The fire engulfed a 250,000-square-metre complex near Podolsk, about 25 miles from Moscow’s centre. Ukraine’s military said seven of the ten largest Wildberries warehouses have now been disabled, part of a campaign against facilities Kyiv says are also used for military logistics while playing a central role in Russia’s online retail economy.

Analysts caution that Russia’s interception figures are probably exaggerated, but say the night’s destruction demonstrates how quickly Ukraine has expanded its long-range capability, including the Flamingo cruise missile and the FP-1 drone, which can reach targets up to 1,500 miles from the border. A Spanish F-18 on a Nato patrol shot down what appeared to be a Russian drone that crossed into Romanian airspace, and a ballistic missile attack on Kyiv injured six people.
