Chinese EV makers move factories to Africa as global trade shifts
Chinese automakers are shifting from exporting cars to building them in Africa, betting on rapid urbanisation and a growing middle class — a pivot driven by slowing demand at home and new trade barriers in Europe and North America. Chery, China's largest auto exporter, has already acquired Nissan's former plant near Pretoria to build EVs and hybrids.
